Animal Health Technologists that wish to practice veterinary medicine in the province of Alberta are required by law to have membership in the AAAAHT and be registered with the ABVMA. When an AHT is interested in working in Alberta, they must contact the ABVMA directly and/or go to the ABVMA website to access the registration forms. When an AHT is registered with the ABVMA, they automatically become members in the ABVMA and the AAAHT and must adhere to bylaws and legislation in both organizations.
There are several categories of membership within the ABVMA, please refer to the ABVMA website under Bylaws: www.abvma.ca Membership process information is also available on the ABVMA website.
There are 2 categories of membership in the AAAHT:” registered” and “other”. Registered members are those that meet the requirements for registration and membership in the ABVMA and are automatically members in the AAAHT.
The “other” category is for persons that may be employed in a veterinary hospital, such as a VMR or Practice Manager. You may contact the ABVMA office if you are interested in this membership category and you will be provided with a membership application.
Members in the “other” category will receive important updates as well as an information sent to all AAAHT members. These members have full voting priviledges and are welcomed and encouraged to participate on the Board of Directors and Committees of the AAAHT.
