Alberta Agriculture & Food's Veterinary Work Experience Program

Summer Employment for Veterinary Students

Alberta Agriculture and Food is again offering support for Veterinary Clinics in hiring students for summer employment. Students must be enrolled in a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree program or in an Animal Health Technology program. Students must have completed at least one year of study and be returning to their Veterinary studies in the fall of 2008. Priority will be given to students who lived in Alberta prior to attending post secondary school.

The program provides reimbursement to veterinarians hiring students for the four month period between May 1, 2008 and August 31, 2008. Qualifying vet clinics must be a practice that consists of at least 50% livestock work. Reimbursement rates vary from 30% to 50% of wages, depending on the type of program and number of years of studies the student has completed.

Applications must be completed jointly by the clinic and the student. Forms are available from Alberta Agriculture and Food website www.agriculture.ab.ca. The application deadline is April 18, 2008. Applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis as long as all qualifications are met. More information is available by calling the Ag-Info Centre at 310-FARM (3276) or e-mailing betty.birch@gov.ab.ca.
