Student Employment

Certain students, graduates of a “recognized” veterinary college or students enrolled in an accredited AHT program may be engaged by a certified veterinary practice to perform ancillary animal health care services in an instructional capacity. 

AVMA Bylaws indicate that a Veterinary Student may be:

Final Year Student Member Click here (refer to Section 2 b)
or
Non-Final Year Student Member Click here (refer to Section 2 d)

Their duties must be performed in accordance with Council Guidelines.

All students MUST be members of the AVMA or the AAAHT if they are participating in veterinary practice in Alberta.

Supervising Veterinarians must complete a “Consent to Employ a Student” application form and submit to Registrar for Approval.
